Refy Beauty: My Top Picks

Refy is an it-girl beauty brand. But did you know it’s also vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free and Leaping Bunny certified? Style, and substance. I’ve been trialling a mix of products from Refy over the last few months and wanted to shine a spotlight on my favourites from the minimalist collection today. Here are my top picks from Refy Beauty, plus what I’ve already repurchased…

Who Is Refy Beauty?

Refy was launched in 2020 by fashion and beauty influencer Jess Hunt and entrepreneur Jenna Meek. The brand’s mission is to simplify makeup routines; Jenna Meek got the inspiration after observing Jess Hunt’s “complicated” eyebrow routine. Refy also plays into Jess’ glossy yet minimalist aesthetic. Today, the brand offers 14 products, covering Lips, Eyes, Face, and Skin & Body.

As before, Refy is vegan, cruelty-free, and fragrance-free. They have Leaping Bunny certification, and almost all products claim to be paraben-free too.

Refy Beauty: Top-Rated Products

Glow and Sculpt Face Primer: 8/10

As someone with dehydrated-skin, primer is a necessity in my make-up bag. I like to start the hydration earlier on with skincare, and Refy’s Glow and Sculpt Face Primer is the perfect way to ensure my skin is ready for foundation, concealer, and the rest. In fact, Refy claims that the Glow and Sculpt Face Primer is a skincare/makeup prep hybrid, which I get in regards to its hydrating nature, but I don’t see how it would replace any steps of my skincare routine.

As a primer, it works wonders. It leaves my skin looking and feeling dewy, which works very well with liquid foundation applied with a brush. I know the days where I’ve worn it, as my makeup stays better and lasts longer.

The primer itself rolls on with a uniquely wide roller-ball. This ensures even product application all over the skin (although feels a little less tactile around eyes and nose). I love it for this, but also hate it for hygiene reasons. Refy advises to ‘wipe the roller after every use’ which unfortunately I didn’t read until writing this review… Ew.

Refy Beauty Brow Sculpt Review

Brow Sculpt: 10/10

Of all the Refy Beauty products, Brow Sculpt I cannot do without. I have already repurchased it once and looking to do so again soon… It’s just so much better than the potted brow gels I was using before.

With a wand applicator, and lid that also reveals a brow brush and comb, you can apply the gel to your eyebrows before combing in the perfect shape locking them in place with the lightweight, clear-turning gel. (The product actually looks white when in the tube, but applies lightly and dries clear).

Refy promises a “12-hour sculpted hold” – I would argue it lasts longer. At the same time, my brows remain in place without feeling heavy or crispy, like other products sometimes feel.

Brow Tint: 7/10

Considering Jess Hunt is famed for her pristine eyebrows, it’s unsurprising that the Refy Beauty range has multiple brow products that work very well. My second-favourite brow product has to be their Brow Tint (I found the Shade Espresso best matched my dark brows).

This is a water-based, non-permanent brow tint gel which also sets brows in place, but gives finer hairs a darker tint for more uniform, polished looking brows. Personally, I found this made my brows a little heavy looking. I also just prefer using a brow pencil to draw in sparser areas before using the clear gel.

Refy Beauty Face Setter Setting Spray Review

Face Setter Setting Spray: 7/10

Despite being a skincare fanatic, I’m less obsessed with makeup and so my experience with setting sprays is rather limited. The Refy Beauty Face Setter Setting Spray is a step up from other sprays I’ve tried, for both its fine application, and lightweight hold.

I wear pretty minimal make-up so I found this spray to only really be useful for days I wanted heavier makeup set in place all day (i.e. special events), and on those days it really performed, without dulling the dewiness of other products.

Lip Blush Lipstick: 5/10

Refy’s Lip Blush is a nice yet somewhat underwhelming entry. I really enjoy a multi-use product – my favourite being Noto Botanics’ Multi Bene Stick – and will draw the dewy blush onto my lips and eyelids to tie a look together.

Refy’s version of this is a little heavier and less malleable than what I look for in a lip-to-cheek product. It’s a little too light as a lip balm, and takes some working up to really sit nicely. However, I will add that I tried this during the colder months of the year – it may be somewhat easier in a warmer environment.

Refy Beauty Lip Gloss in Clear Review

Lip Gloss: 6/10

Refy Beauty’s Lip Gloss (in the shade Clear) is the highest shine lip gloss I’ve ever tried. This makes my lips look so good, but at a bit of a cost too, hence the rating.

This gloss has no taste or scent, but it does have a slight stickiness to it, that doesn’t feel great on the lips. It goes on smooth – the metal applicator has a slight cooling effect – and looks gorgeous. For a kissable selfie, this is the gloss.

However, I found it to be a bit irritating and quite drying. I know lip glosses are not there to function as lip balms, but I found myself re-applying this gloss multiple times throughout the day due to getting dry lips.

My Overall Rating of Refy Beauty: 8/10

I like a disruptor, and I think Refy does just that. Its products are surprisingly effective, affordable, and live up to its creators’ aims for the brand. While I didn’t personally get on with some of the products, they did all perform above average, and I am now officially hooked on the Refy Beauty Brow Sculpt. If you haven’t tried Refy, I recommend the top rated products here to get started.

Refy Beauty is available from Sephora, Space NK*, and refybeauty.com
