Gifts For Peace

This year has been a year of heartache. I like to set a theme for my gift guides, and ‘peace’ seemed to be the most fitting this year. The holidays are traditionally a time to come together with loved ones, and consider those who deserve love shared with them too. In my mind, that’s the millions of refugees fleeing from conflict – from Gaza, to Sudan and South Sudan, to Ukraine. So, my gift guide covers gifts that provide peace; giving recipients a moment to pause, as well as those supporting refugee charities, makers, and artisans.

There are gifts for everyone in this guide – from lovely ornaments to luxurious cosmetics, festive furnishings to sumptuous scents – and across a range of budgets too. I hope you’ll find something for a loved one from this guide, or consider looking at sites these are from and finding your own perfect presents.

Spotlight on: MADE51

Since writing my gift guide supporting refugees in 2021, I’ve returned every year to MADE51 for beautiful gifts to feature. MADE51 was established in 2018 by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to create that opportunity through the handmade sector. They support displaced makers and artisans to earn a living by creating clothes, homewares, and decorations, all of which are so beautifully done. Having the opportunity to work and earn a living is one of the most effective ways people can rebuild their lives with dignity, so it’s a pleasure to showcase them across this guide. Shop MADE51 →
