Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. Review | Ad

Products from Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co.

I love sustainable skincare. Over the years, I’ve tried lots of cruelty-free beauty brands from around the world. However, today’s brand is a little closer to home. Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. is based in Scotland, and all of their products are handmade in Scotland too. With cruelty-free, natural, and eco-friendly credentials, I had to give them a go! Here are my thoughts on the brand, and five products from their range…

Who Is The Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co.?

The Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. was founded in 2010 by Tommy Crooks. It was originally named Edinburgh Natural Soap Co., but later grew into a wider range of skincare products, and so the name evolved. The brand is based in Edinburgh, Scotland, and has two independent shops in the city.

Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. has four brand values that apply to all of their products:

  • Cruelty-free
  • Natural ingredients
  • Handmade in Scotland
  • Eco-friendly packaging

Today, the brand has a wide range of skincare, bath, body, and haircare products suitable for all genders. Almost all of the products come in their range of exclusive botanical scents, including:

And, while many of Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co.’s products are made with beeswax, they also have a range of vegan skincare.

My Review of Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co.

Organic Hemp Oil Cleanser

Organic Hemp Oil Cleanser

The first step in my skincare routine is always a cleanser. For this review, I chose the Virgin Organic Hemp Seed Oil Super Cleanser, which I was intrigued by. Oil cleansers deserve more recognition – they’re great for cutting through dirt and makeup, and are often made with natural ingredients, like this one here.

Up close, this cleanser is a little cloudier than pictured, but has a lovely clean rose scent. I always cleanse with a face cloth, and this oil cleanser works nicely for both cleaning skin and removing makeup. It’s also gentle enough for double cleansing. I would recommend using half a dropper’s worth of cleanser each time – enough to lightly coat your face. This is one of my favourite products from the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co., and I think it’s very reasonably priced too.

Eternal Face Cream

The first thing you’ll notice with the Eternal Face Cream With Black Lilac And Vitamin E is its beautiful scent. The amber extract (featured in all products with the ‘Eternal’ scent) is just so luxurious. It’s nice to go from the clean rose of the oil cleanser to this face cream.

I have quite dehydrated skin, so I’m always looking for deeply hydrating face creams. This one is mid-weight, and due to its shea butter base, takes a little while to sink into the skin. Since using this product, I’ve started reserving it for bedtime, alongside my usual retinoid products and serums, so I can give it more time to absorb.

I will add that personally, I don’t like it when products promote anti-ageing (because ageing isn’t a bad thing!) What I can say is that this face cream is super, as described!

Solid Bath Oils

Solid Bath Oils

I love a good bath, and I’m always looking for sustainable bath products to use. Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. makes beautiful, handmade, solid bath oils, which I chose to try in the Sweet Orange and Geranium scent. These little love hearts are made with a base of cocoa butter, essential oils, and a few dried rose petals to make bath time a bit prettier. I enjoyed bathing with these and think they would make for a great gift.

Whipped Body Butter

Moisturiser is my favourite step of my skincare routine, and the same goes for body moisturisers. Applying the St Clements Luxury Body Butter gives me that same luxurious feeling. With a base of shea butter, coconut oil, and RSPO certified palm oil, this whipped body butter is great at hydrating my skin. Just like the rest of the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co.’s products, it does require some warming up first, which works better with a little pressure too. The fresh, citrus scent makes me think of the summer – and based on my usage, it will likely last me until the summer too!

Solid Hand Cream Bar

Solid Hand Cream Bar

Now onto the star of the show – the Luxury No.1 Hand Cream Bar. While the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. started as a soap company, I think it’s their hand cream bars that shine! I use hand cream multiple times a day due to having dry skin, and this bar has become an instant handbag essential. With a beeswax and cocoa butter base, and natural essential oils for the scent, it’s a simple product that just works. A little goes a long way with this bar, and you only need to warm the bar in your hands for a few seconds before you can rub it in. I chose to try the Luxury No.1 scent, which smells of clean lavender and warm frankincense.

I have previously reviewed a number of waterless beauty products, and need to add this to the list! As a solid cosmetic that comes in its own reusable tin, it’s great for travelling too.

My Overall Rating of Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co.: 9/10

I really have enjoyed getting to know the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Company. Their products are beautifully made, with simple, natural ingredients, and they smell beautiful, too. The standout products from this review are the Hemp Oil Cleanser and the Whipped Body Butter, which feel like a real treat to use, and are fairly priced too.

As almost all the products have a shea butter or beeswax base, they do take a little extra time to use. I imagine this will be reduced slightly when summer rolls around, but nonetheless, they are effective once warmed up!

The vast majority of the range make for great gifts, and they also offer gift sets too. I think it may be time to revisit Edinburgh and pop their shops in my guide to the best sustainable places in Edinburgh!

Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co. is available to purchase from their website and shops.
