9 Outfits I’m Rewearing For Autumn

Collage of Besma wearing different Autumn outfits

It’s time for an autumn outfit post, and this year, I’m being lazy. I’m rewearing. Shock, horror! Honestly, I think more influencers should lean in to rewearing. It’s like a cheat code for content! Why reinvent the wheel or try to wear a new trend when you can finesse your personal style and rewear garments you already own?!

As much as I’m into rewearing clothes and reducing how much I shop for sustainable reasons, there are plenty of other benefits: dressing is quicker, easier, and I always feel more confident. I’d rather show up to an event in an outfit I know suits me, one that I’ve made good memories in, than something super new.

9 Autumn Outfits I’m Rewearing This Year

I’ve been blogging for 10 years now, so I’ve shot a lot of outfits in that time. Here are the outfits I’m rewearing this year, with pics from past photoshoots. I’ve noted how I’m restyling them slightly to better suit my mood and body (because these things change over time!)

Black Top & Slouchy Grey Jeans

This is an autumnal update on my regular uniform – a t-shirt and jeans – and it’s perfect for the transitional months. Grey denim feels a little more suited to the cooler months than a bright blue or white jean. And these ‘jeans’ are actually made from Tencel, meaning they’re softer and floatier than denim. It actually feels like I’m wearing a sweatpants!

Up top, I like to layer up, and on warmer days I’ll wear a sweatshirt or jumper across my shoulders. If it’s a little rainy out, I’ll also wear my trench coat and drape the top across the shoulders of that instead.

Woolly Jumper & A Mini Skirt

This jumper is one of my most-worn jumpers. It’s from the brand Navygrey, a high quality knitwear specialist based in the U.K. It’s the first jumper I gravitate to as soon as the cooler weather hits, as it’s both warm, being 100% wool, and lightweight enough that it still pairs well with a skirt.

Between this photo and now, I’ve sadly had to donate the leather skirt to a clothes bank, as the leather grew mould on it. I think it was perhaps already an issue when I bought it in a local charity shop, as I store my leather goods in clothing bags when they’re not being worn. However, the jumper is still great over a plain black skirt, and my leather midi skirt, shown below.

A Trench Coat & Anything, Really

Trench coat with skirt outfit

If you bump into me out and about in Brighton in the Autumn, I’ll likely be wearing my favourite Samsøe Samsøe trench coat. This is actually more of a car coat, with slouchy rounded shoulders and less structure than a trench, but it’s in that perfect camel colour and does the job as well as a Burberry would. I thrifted it from Reliked* back in 2020 and it’s one of my best purchases from the site. It came in mint condition, and is a lovely, heavy, linen-cotton blend.

The Denim Jumpsuit

Now onto a very special piece to me – my Sophie Hawkins denim jumpsuit. I’ve been wearing this jumpsuit since 2021, after meeting and studying with Sophie Hawkins on a circular fashion course in 2020. Sophie is a whirlwind of inspiration, designing and making her jumpsuits in collaboration with the world’s finest Japanese fabric mills to create pieces that will last a lifetime. Their designs are timeless, with attention paid to how our bodies change and the movement we need in everyday life. They also keep production small, to a very localised area of Japan, reducing their environmental footprint.

In the trans-seasonal months, my jumpsuit is really handy as it can be worn with a top tucked inside, and a jumper over the top.

Cropped Jumper & High Rise Trousers

Another much-loved jumper has to be my cropped cashmere jumper from Naadam. I was gifted this jumper over five years ago, and have worn it and lovingly handwashed it ever since, to keep it looking as good as new. (You can see me first wearing it in my guide to sustainable knitwear.) Half of the battle with rewearing outfits is taking care of them, but there’s something so much more satisfying wearing a really comfy, confidence-inducing garment over and over than switching for trends all the time. This jumper is a testament to the practice of clothing care.

Roll-Neck Jumper & Leather Midi Skirt

One of my best second-hand purchases last year was my leather midi skirt from Theory, which I scored on Reliked* for just under £100. Considering the skirt retailed for £800, I thought it was worth taking the plunge – and I was right! This skirt is made of beautifully soft, lightweight leather, and is made in a way that moves with my body. I feel comfortable and so chic whenever I wear it!

Unlike the previous outfits, I’ve been wearing this one exactly as pictured. I love pairing it with my leather knee-high boots, leather handbag, and slouchy roll-neck top from the (sadly now defunct) Dai.

Paloma Wool Jumper & Black Trousers

To round-off my showcase of jumpers, I have to share my Paloma Wool yin-yang jumper, which I picked up on Depop in 2021, and shot in this piece with my trusty Nez Living notebook. Unlike the rest of my jumpers, this one isn’t pure wool, but instead blended with polyester, making it slightly less kind on the planet, even if I purchased it second-hand.

I love the design of this jumper and it’s lightweight enough to wear it with a long-sleeve top underneath, which I tend to do to save on hand-washing it so often. I actually wear this jumper a lot at home, as I have a pair of oversized knitted trousers from Baserange that I like to wear over leggings. Together, they keep me warm enough without needing to put the heating on!

An Evening Dress for Autumn

For dressier evenings, I’ve been wearing this wrap dress from Meem Label*, which I found on Wolf & Badger*. It’s actually the perfect little black dress and I know, I know, I’ve said that about black dresses of the past, but this one is understated yet interesting, incredibly comfortable, and travels well too. I actually took it with me to New York and wore it to a dinner at a very glitzy restaurant opposite the Empire State Building!

My Vintage Wool & Cashmere Coat

Finally, the vintage wool coat is back out of storage! It’s been a chilly start to Autumn which had me reaching into my winter clothing storage early on. There, I recovered my vintage wool and cashmere coat, which I found on eBay back in 2018. By 2021, it had made its way onto my 10 best investment pieces list, and here I am in 2024 excited to wear it for another year.

The key to this coat is upkeep. It arrived in great condition, but was a tad oversized, and so I took it to be altered, taking up the hem. Since then, I’ve had it repaired twice more, and every time I pay another £20 towards it, I think about how it’s still an incredibly good deal. This coat is pure wool and cashmere, and cost me just £20 originally. In today’s world, it would be worth at least £400 new!
