I have a lot of hair. It’s thick, heavy, and demanding. I swear – I’m a low maintenance girl trapped in a high maintenance body. To help manage my hair, I’ve started using salon-grade haircare products, and it really has been worth it. I wanted to spotlight three of the best haircare products I’ve discovered this year – as part of my trio of guides on skincare, body care, and haircare – and help you also discover sustainable, cruelty-free products that really do work.
KMS Moist Repair Shampoo
Last year I began dabbling with KMS Haircare products after discovering their salon range was now available to the public to buy. KMS is a salon haircare brand that is vegan, cruelty-free, and highly effective. After discovering their Conscious Style range, and then their Christmas Gift Sets, I also tried their Moist Repair Shampoo and it has become my absolute favourite. This shampoo refreshes my roots without having to fight too hard against my thick hair, which usually does a good job of dragging shampoo down and setting it on my scalp. I also love that the shampoo has large refills, which I store in my bathroom cupboard whenever I run low. I’ll be buying more gift sets this Christmas!

Davines LOVE Hair Mask
The Davines LOVE Smoothing Instant Hair Mask is the hero product of my summer haircare routine. If you only try one product on this list, make it this hair mask. I use it religiously, following my conditioner during my bi-weekly hair washes.
I usually like to do a face mask and hair mask once a week, typically on a Sunday morning while I watch some trash TV in the bath. However, this mask has left my hair so silky soft and hydrated that I started using it every time I wash my hair.
I take a scoop of the product and run it through the lengths of my hair, followed by a wide-toothed comb to even out the product. At this point my hair is knot-free and silky smooth. After a few minutes, I’ll wash it out with lukewarm water and trust me, you’ll feel the results at this stage immediately. My hair is so soft and stays soft during drying.
(Also – as a brunette, I’ve always been jealous of the lavender purple toners and hair products blondes get to use, so this really makes up for it!)

KENT Classic Shine Hairbrush
I’d feel lost without my KENT ‘The Richard’ pocket comb. Since I got bangs back in 2016, I’ve kept this small, perfectly formed comb on my person. Despite it being a moustache brush – which I’ve always assumed was named after Richard on Friends – The Richard has seen me through hair malfunctions, windswept moments, and more.
Thanks to this small comb, I’ve grown very fond of the KENT haircare range. Their handmade combs and brushes are made in the UK and are sturdy and comfortable to use, even through my thick (see: tangly) hair. My Smoothing Brush tames fly-aways with ease, and is essential whenever I wear my hair up.
This year, I was kindly gifted the Classic Shine Hairbrush after capturing the KENT team’s eye over on Instagram. This big mixed-bristle paddle brush is cushioned and gentle on my hair, even when I need to tackle large sections at a time. It takes me back to the days when my mum would brush my hair before school – carefully and firmly, before dividing into two long plaits. It’s a lovely brush, well-made and made to last.
