What could be better than sustainable beauty? Sustainable beauty at up to 70% off, that’s what! That’s what’s on offer at Boop, a new online outlet stocking premium beauty and wellness products at huge discounts – and all in the name of sustainability.
Boop’s mission is to reduce beauty’s waste problem. With an estimated 90 million beauty products being sent to landfill in the UK each year, it begs the question – why aren’t we using these products?! More often than not, these cosmetics don’t ever reach shop shelves, due to changes in branding, packaging, and formulations. But now, there’s a place for them: Boop.
Who Is Boop?
Boop is an online outlet for premium beauty and wellness products which are in excess, discontinued, or aesthetically imperfect. In years gone by, these products would normally be destroyed or sent to landfill. Boop’s founder, Yasmine Amr, started the site to save cosmetics from this fate, and pass on major discounts too!
How Does It Work?
Boop sources its product directly from brands, and has close relationships with them too. This means they can help whenever a beauty brand decides to reformulate or redesign their packaging, taking on any excess stock. It means all the products on Boop are authentic, and also fresh from these brands.
Boop launched late last year, and it’s already stocking some of my favourite sustainable and luxury brands, like Aromatherapy Associates, Antipodes, and John Masters Organics.
Why Are Beauty Products Destroyed?
Beauty has a huge waste problem. It’s estimated that up to 40 % of beauty products end up as waste, and much of that goes straight from production to landfill. Boop is helping to cut down on the number of beauty products being thrown away.
Here are a number of reasons why beauty products are destroyed:
- Excess stock (the beauty brand made too much),
- Limited edition items are no longer in season (for example, Holiday or Christmas Sets),
- Products contain a formulation that has since been changed,
- Brands have redesigned their logo or packaging,
- Aesthetic imperfections (such as wonky labels or missing outer packaging).
Why I Love Boop
I always always always choose sustainable skincare and beauty when I can, and Boop makes this very easy. Everything they stock is being saved from waste!
That being said, one big draw is the huge discounts available. Face oils and serums are up to 70% off, and haircare up to 50% off.
I also know I can trust Boop to quality check all their products – so you can be sure products are brand new, have their seals intact, and are within their shelf-life.
My Best Discount Beauty Finds
Boop launched late last year and already has brands like Aromatheraphy Associates, Bouclème, Fiils, and John Masters Organics listed on their site. If you like sustainable beauty, you’ll likely know and use many of these brands already. Plus, I’m excited to see more brands join the platform in coming months too!
One of my best finds has to be Aromatherapy Associates’ Renewing Cleanser. This cleansing balm melts beautifully into my skin and removes all make-up and dirt from the day. I do like to double cleanse in the evenings and this cleansing balm is perfectly gentle on my skin even on the second time round. And the best part? The cleanser was almost 40% cheaper than it’s RRP because it was missing its cardboard box. I’ll happily part with a cardboard box for that kind of discount!
So far, I’ve found all the beauty products from Boop to be in pristine condition, with no wonky labels or packaging issues, even when outer packaging is missing. You can actually find out why an item is listed on Boop in its description, so you’ll know what to expect when it turns up.
