I love a good hair swish moment. This year I set out to grow my hair longer than ever, and honestly it’s been a commitment. It’s meant searching for haircare that really looks after my scalp and the full length of my hair, while also preserving my hair colour between appointments. Enter: the KMS ConsciousStyle range. Here’s why I love their products, and why I recommend giving the gift of good hair this Christmas!
Introducing KMS
KMS has been making haircare for salon professionals since 1976, with a focus on natural ingredients that revolutionised the haircare industry. Today, KMS creates its products with the same professional quality, designed for all hair types and textures, with a focus on creating as little impact on the environment as possible. Their products are cruelty-free and climate neutral, with a focus on reducing impact across their supply chains, as well as their formulas, and packaging.
I first discovered KMS through their on-going collaboration with VIN + OMI, a vegan fashion brand with punk heritage and eco values, and later spotted their products at my local hairdressers. But I was most excited to discover KMS has now taken to creating products for our bathrooms too – all with the same eco edge!
My Top Picks: KMS Haircare
As haircare specialists, KMS has quite an extensive range of salon-quality products. As a general introduction to KMS, I’d recommend starting with the ConsciousStyle Set. This includes their Everyday Shampoo, Everyday Conditioner, and Cleansing Mist. These are designed to work with hair types from straight to coily, and have fully vegan formulas, as well as up to 97% biodegradability. And in the run up to Christmas, they’ve had a makeover by illustrator Alana McDowell!
ConsciousStyle Shampoo Review
Let’s start with my favourite product, the ConsciousStyle Shampoo. What’s really nice is that this shampoo lathers like any other shampoo, while being free from SLS and SLES, which are used in most mainstream shampoos to create a lather, despite damaging the hair and scalp. I’ve been using ConsciousStyle shampoo for about six weeks now, washing my hair twice or three times a week. I’ve found it works best when applied to the roots of my hair, to clean any excess oils and refresh my hair, without stripping the rest of my hair. As a liquid shampoo, it’s easy to apply and rinse out. I also love using it alongside a shower brush – it’s like giving myself a mini head massage every time I wash my hair!
ConsciousStyle Conditioner Review
Next, I’ll follow on with the ConsciousStyle Conditioner. I’m a bit picky when it comes to conditioners – I like them to be rich and creamy while being lightweight enough to leave my hair feeling flowy and non-greasy, which is tough to do with how much hair I have! The ConsciousStyle Conditioner achieves this really well – it’s not too thick, not to thin. I like to comb this conditioner through the lengths of my hair to give it an even spread, and then rinse out with cooler water to preserve my hair colour and shine.
ConsciousStyle Cleansing Mist Review
I also think there’s some sort of magic going on when it comes to KMS’ sprays. In the ConsciousStyle Set is the Cleansing Mist Spray, a great, sustainable alternative to dry shampoo, refreshing hair at the roots by both absorbing oils and neutralising odours. I was actually surprised at how well this works, given its liquid form (compared to the powdery dry shampoos I’ve previously been used to). Another spray I’d also heavily recommend is the ThermaShape Quick Blow Dry Spray, which has been a game-changer when blow-drying my thick, long hair. This spray not only protects my hair from heat, but it also helps dry my hair quicker – magic!
Shop KMS Haircare Gift Sets
Alongside my favourite ConsciousStyle range, I have to mention the KMS MoistRepair Sets! MoistRepair is KMS’ most popular line, and it now comes in zero waste sets: the MoistRepair Maxi Shampoo Set and the MoistRepair Maxi Conditioner Set. These Christmassy sets are the perfect starter kit for good hair for 2024, with introductory bottles of the MoistRepair Shampoo and MoistRepair Conditioner (fully recyclable) and giant refills (which use 73% less plastic than the bottles). At this time of year, preserving moisture in the hair is critical – I find mine dries out due to both the frosty weather, and the incessant indoor heating!
Finally, for coloured hair, there’s also the KMS ColorVitality line, which I’d like to try next. While the ConsciousStyle set is gentle enough to be used on coloured hair, I’d like to see if I can preserve my hair colour for longer using this range – I’ll have to update you!
Give The Gift Of Good Hair
In my gift guide this year, I shared my favourite items that I use regularly and love, with the KMS ConsciousStyle Gift Set being one of them. There’s nothing better than giving a gift that the recipient will truly appreciate, and I know these KMS Gift Sets will be a hit with my sister especially – she’s recently seen her hair change in thickness and has been trying to find the right products to tame it. Little does she know, I have the solution!
If you’re looking for good gift inspiration, I hope these sets will be a hit! Not only are the products such good quality, but they’re also inclusive, cruelty-free, and sustainably made. It’s nice to give good gifts that do good too!
Let me know if you give KMS a try – or gift their products this festive season!
