Is there anything better than getting a haircut? Previously, I would have argued no – getting a haircut is one of my favourite treats and it’s why I go religiously every six weeks! Now, I can argue, yes – getting a haircut at Neil Moodie Studio is better! Here’s why the new Spitalfields hair salon is a cut above the rest…
The Neil Moodie Touch

Neil Moodie is one of the UK’s most successful hairstylists, and has been a leading figure in the fashion industry for over three decades. He debuted into the world of editorial styling in 1993, and has over 50 global Vogue covers to his name. Naturally then, I was excited to visit his new hair salon, based in the historic Spitalfields Market!
The salon itself is beautifully designed, with lots of space and light, luxuriously soft chairs, and mid-century modern touches. As well as being a salon, the space is home to guest manicurists and hairstylists, and can be used as an event space too, with two floors and multiple stations.
On the day, I was welcomed into the salon and met with Maia Poly, an experienced Colour Technician who sat me down and chatted with me about what I’d like to achieve with my hair. If anything – I wanted to cover my roots, go a little darker for autumn, and keep my hair growing longer and longer. She nodded, and away we went!
A Conscious Salon As Standard

The Neil Moodie Studio’s ethos is ‘Luxury Hair for the Consciously Minded’. As I’ve been to my fair share of eco salons in London and around the UK, I’ve seen plenty of different interpretations of eco hairdressing. Here, it felt like the luxury part came first, and while there were eco principles across the salon, they were done quietly. To me, this is the future of sustainability: doing it without fuss or sacrifice.
During my haircut, Maia and I discussed sustainability, and she mentioned that the salon was part of the Green Salon Collective. This is an independent organisation supporting salons across the UK and Ireland with education, recycling, and accreditation. In the Neil Moodie Studio, this consists of dividing waste up – hair, foils, and more – and recycling each of these individually.
The Neil Moodie Studio also provides a gender neutral price list, and offers inclusive hair styling, so everyone can feel comfortable booking in at the salon.
The one downside came when I saw the L’Oréal products lined up by the wash basin. (As L’Oréal is not cruelty-free, I avoid their products). The Neil Moodie Studio uses both L’Oréal and Pureology though, so there is a cruelty-free option available.

My Experience At The Neil Moodie Studio

I had an excellent experience getting my hair cut and coloured at the Neil Moodie Studio. I was booked in with Maia, who was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout, talking me through the colour process and asking me how I’d like my hair styled.
All clients at the Neil Moodie Studio are offered complimentary drinks, as well as provided with free access to a digital magazine library with the latest copies of most mainstream publications. I was treated to a little massage when having my hair washed – the chair itself was a massage chair! – and by the end, I felt like a brand new person.
Thank you to the Neil Moodie Studio team, and in particular to Maia, for making my visit such a pleasant experience! I came away with a hair colour that is so spot on with what I wanted, and a cut that’s held well over the last few weeks too. The experience was just flawless, and it makes me want to travel into London every six weeks now…!
