Can you make a little time to celebrate our beautiful planet this month? With April 22nd being Earth Day, and campaigns such as Fashion Revolution Week and #EndSewagePollution Protests taking place this month, there’s a lot to get involved with. That being said, I already feel exhausted, and it’s my job to join in with these things all year round!

When it came to writing this, I realised that so many of you probably also feel exhausted when it comes to looking out for our planet. The recent IPCC report showed us that governments and business leaders are saying the right things but making no real action to move away from fossil fuels – and that puts us all in jeopardy. We have to continue to rally for better, but also take some time to rest and reconnect too.
Six Easy Ways To Celebrate Earth Month
So, here’s six ways you can celebrate Earth Month this month, ranked from least effort to most. Do what feels good for you:
1. SIGN THESE PETITIONS
Tell our Government we expect them to move away from fossil fuels. Tell big banks to stop investing in fossil fuels. And tell big brands to stop exploiting workers. And even better, share the petitions on social media too.
2. CHANGE ONE HABIT
Switching to sustainable alternatives requires effort, but switching one habit can have a long-lasting, cumulative effect, without too much trouble. Be it your wardrobe, your pension, your period products, or these twelve veggies… It all helps. For my part this year, I’m focusing on circular fashion, ensuring any new items can be reworn, reworked, and recycled. Above outfit details: Sleeveless Benjamin Top, Mabel Jeans, both Seventy + Mochi (gifted). Second-hand Swedish Hasbeens sandals.
3. INVEST IN BETTER
This year, the theme for Earth Day is ‘Invest In Our Planet’. While it may be obvious that plastic bags and fast fashion are harming the planet, have you ever considered your money might be doing the same? Whether it’s your bank account, your pension, or your investments… Certain big banks are supporting fossil fuels, deforestation, war, and worse. If you can make one big change this month, make it where your money is invested.
4. CHOOSE YOUR ROLE IN THE CLIMATE MOVEMENT
From The Citizen to The Rebel, this graphic by Climate in Colour can help you to better define how to best support the climate movement. I often struggle knowing quite where I stand – am I a communicator? An educator? A community organiser? – and in reality, I often feel that I’m not doing enough. This guide at least helps to identify certain roles and how your strengths and passions can play into them.
5. THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL
Now you know your focus, why not apply it within your local community? From sharing unwanted items on OLIO to donating to a local charity, it all helps.
6. BECOME AN ETHICAL INFLUENCER
Finally, if you’re making good progress on your sustainability journey, why not share about it? And if so, why not join a community of people doing the same? Here’s my recent workshop explaining what it means to be an Ethical Influencer, and hey, membership to the Ethical Influencers network is free!
