Earlier this month I had the pleasure of visiting GA Salon, an upmarket hairdressers in Notting Hill. Founded by Gennaro Dell’Aquila, the salon caught my attention with their focus on ‘creating beauty through nature’, using clean haircare and plant-based hair dyes.
As someone who switched away from conventional shampoos and conditioners a few years ago, I’m always on the look out for hairdressers who share my approach to use gentler products, of natural origin, that are kinder to our hair and the planet alike. Here’s how I got on – and how I also got my hair mojo back!

GA Salon Notting Hill is one of four that are dotted across London (the others are located in Chelsea, London Bridge, and Wimbledon).
It was clear from the moment that I walked in the door at GA Notting Hill that the team’s focus is on the experience as much as it is the products they use. The interior is flawless, with orchids sprouting from the ceiling, organic products and dyes lined up like interior design accessories, and gold trimmings everywhere you look. And the staff were wonderfully welcoming – they quickly swapped my coat for a gown and got me settled before I got chatting with my hairdresser, Vincenzo.
My Haircut Experience
Vincenzo is everything you look for in a good hairdresser. He initially consulted me on what I’d like to have done (trim my split ends, take some weight out my hair, and cut my bangs back in) and then he took me through each step with care and confidence.
After a gentle hair wash and head massage, he trimmed and re-styled my hair, pausing every now and again to tell me his plan to get my hair to my ideal style. In fact, he went further, adding movement and shine when styling it, to the point where friends were comparing it to Sharon Van Etten or Stevie Nicks (both idols of mine!)
For years now, I’ve preferred to visit hairdressers who use natural products, and GA does this with Oway products, as well as their own signature natural colouring system. Roll that in with their beautiful presentation, personable team, and the delicious oat lattes they serve (!), and it shows their passion is about performance and planet-friendly haircare in equal measure.
